For the first time Steven Moffat (whose reign as producer has not always inspired me with confidence

My enthusiasm for the anniversary of Doctor Who was waning, and listening to The Light at the End did not help. Already I was tiring of Doctor Who, after watching every single episode over a period of five months, and researching 3d printer every novel, comic and audio adventure produced, to cook my own slice of the anniversary cake – namely my book, Companions: Fifty Years of Doctor Who Assistants . Something was seriously needed to kickstart my excitement…
Luckily the BBC were forced to released 3d printer a very unexpected surprise after a mini-episode, a prequel to the anniversary story, was leaked earlier than planned. It was officially released on Paul McGann’s birthday, and what a present it was for him, and what an anniversary treat for all the fans! #2: The Night of the Doctor
No one really expect this. Since 2005, when Christopher Eccleston appeared in Rose, it was the one question every Doctor Who fan wanted answer. When and why did the Eighth Doctor regenerate? The obvious conclusion, based on visual evidence in that first story, was shortly before the Nu Series, at the end of the Time War. But then earlier this year we saw the end of series seven and discovered a previously unknown incarnation of the Doctor, the one who fought in the Time War, and it was John Hurt! This threw us all into a tiz, trying to work out how he fitted in the grand scheme of things; was he the older version of the Eighth Doctor, 3d printer was he the Ninth Doctor (thus making Eccleston the Tenth, and Tennant the Eleventh and so on)? We were all hoping that the anniversary special would answer this, and despite McGann’s insistence to the contrary, I for one was certain he’d appear somehow. But not like this!
I, like so many, clicked that youtube link to see this minisode (as they’re now called) and watched as the TARDIS rushed through space to help a ship about to crash. And like all the others, my mouth at first fell open, and then broke into a wide smile when a voice said ‘I’m a Doctor, just probably not the one you expected’ and the shot cut to Paul McGann standing there with a cheeky grin on his stubbly face.
For the first time Steven Moffat (whose reign as producer has not always inspired me with confidence) was God. He delivered, in seven minutes, the best piece of Doctor Who he had ever written and produced. Finally all our questions were answered. This was the Eighth Doctor who had lived a long time past the TV Movie of 1996, who had endured much pain and loss, who had lived through the Big Finish audios (yes, for the first time since Nu Who began, the Big Finish Eighth Doctor adventures were given their place in TV canon when the Doctor names all his Big Finish companions – a lovely touch, and a most unexpected one [and one that creates more work for me, when I come to to revising my Companions book]), and was now battered and bruised by the Time War, which he refused to become a part of. At last we knew, it was not the Eighth Doctor who fought in the Time War, and it was not he who regenerated into the Eccleston Doctor shortly 3d printer before Rose.
After 3d printer years of playing 3d printer the Doctor on audio, 3d printer McGann stepped effortlessly back into the role, in an outfit that was the perfect evolution from that which he wore in the TV Movie. 3d printer I had always liked the ‘dark eyes’ look Big Finish took to using, leather jacket and satchel included, and it always seemed a nice link between the old and new, but the outfit McGann sported in The Night of the Doctor changed that view for me. And his scenes on Karn were superb. Oh yes, Karn. Another surprising touch. A return to the location of the 1976 story The Brain of Morbius and the Sisterhood of Karn, a race of immortal beings who elevate Time Lord science. For four minutes the Doctor was actually dead, unless he chose to take the offer given him by the Sisterhood, regeneration or final death. It was a sad but noble performance as the Eighth Doctor chose to end his life and become the warrior needed to fight the Time War.
There is really so much in these seven minutes to love. None of it was expected, but all of it so gratefully appreciated. It finally gave us that link between the ‘original’ series and the ‘new’, proving once and for all that they are but one series. And it was the moment I fell back in love with Doctor Who. Suddenly my fears of the anniversary special faded, somehow I just knew that Moffat was going to do a damn good job, and I held to my belief that we would see all the old Doctors in one form or another, 3d printer and we’d see Peter Capaldi turn up (it was too much of an opportunity to pass up, in my view, a fact I told many people 3d printer over and over again).

UPDATE: Following a message from Arthur Dafis on behalf of the University (see comments below) I have some text editing virtualbox to correct some facts wrong. The key fact needed to be corrected was that the Terms and Conditions NOT new, what happened was that they had been brought to the attention of new students. You can see the facts have been corrected in red. I've virtualbox also seen the copy of the Welsh Conditions have changed now and the quotes from English into Welsh. Apologies for the mis-impression.
AU has made considerable harm to herself in recent months for being so out of magic in its attitude towards students' views about the future of the hall Pantycelyn. The University has failed to understand that in a large hall bilingual Welsh wing of the same hall designated Welsh as has existed since 1974. I've argued before that this is similar to Gerrymandering - take a majority Welsh community and planted her back as a minority community in a larger hall English.
But it seems that things virtualbox are going from bad to worse in Aberystwyth and the University virtualbox has taken a serious real-empty when changing highlight the Terms and Conditions University. so it seems to curb and prevent further protests from students. Some would interpret this as a response to recent protests, but there is no clear evidence of a link between the two.
A by the Deputy Vice-Chancellors 'authority to ask people not to congregate in buildings and grounds of the University, to ask people to leave the University buildings and grounds, to refuse to permit meetings, or to terminate the meetings.'
The document also provides a right in some cases to the Information Services department to examine users' files and ebist / students where it is assumed that students have been involved in organizing broken the terms and conditions.
reprimand, a fine (not exceeding 200), suspend the right to use University facilities, eviction of a Hall of Residence Halls of Residence or of all, prohibition from making use of the Student Union or any other organization among students, or excommunicate ' the offender for a period of not more than one session, or expulsion from the university altogether.
Although the terms and conditions virtualbox in this place for years it seems, it is absolutely disgraceful and they still echo at best Universities regimes Wales back in the 1970s when the protests against the expansion virtualbox are strongest, and at worst echo Universities of Germany in 1930. It's time for more academic staff Aberystwyth come off the fence and resisted leadership appalling April McMahon and I hope that the students are intimidated by the new terms and conditions here and they'll virtualbox continue protest route.
In the meantime it is likely that the University could quite easily borrow virtualbox some slick slogans out of 1984. This entry was posted in Faith, Politics on 21/11/2013 by rhysllwyd. Post navigation Soil by the National Theatre - drama autobiographical? The Dusk - S4C: Review
Dear Rhys I just read your latest piece on your blog "AU: Orwellian turn of the university". In this piece you're claiming that "the University has taken a serious real-empty when changing to the Terms and Conditions University, seems to curb and prevent further protests from students." And you go on to quote (in English) virtualbox the 'new conditions' and then later referring to "appalling April McMahon leadership". Important therefore is to draw your attention to the fact that the Rules and Regulations here are not new at all, they are in place for years. Yes it had to be updated in light of the recent reorganization. In December of 2012 the University virtualbox Council approved the decision to cancel the job Registrar and Secretary. The apportionment virtualbox of responsibilities that belonged to the post of senior registrar among other jobs, and many of those who are involved in day-to-day activity of the University to the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student virtualbox Services and Staff. A lot of problems in the food and beverage market because the supermarkets docs become far too powerful. The fact that some supermarkets llechio apples / tomatoes off because they're the wrong shape entirely hyrt.
If the farmers have less seriously than the cost of producing it, why the hell do they remain in the industry? In every other industry, they'd be giving up the ghost. Another case of farmers have been ruined by grants, while every other industry is forced to break the coat according to the cloth, docs I think.
I see your point, William, but I disagree. Yes, other industries have to cut the coat according to the cloth, these days in particular, because of falling demand for their product docs / service in these years of recession. But to my knowledge, there is greater demand for milk now than it was 5 years ago, but there is so much power by a very small number of firms supermarkets, they are pushing docs prices down, there is a decline in demand . I'd rather ii price of the product - milk - reflect the true cost of producing milk, transporting the milk, the milk and the retail milk treated with some profit to the producer, the carrier and the retailer along the way. If that would mean that the price of a pint of milk will rise 50%, or even double, so be it. I would then choose to pay that price, or eat / drink less milk if I want. I would have to cut my coat according to my mrethyn then.
And in that respect, you've got a point regarding the disposal grants too. This was done in New Zealand. It has been difficult for the farmers for a time, but since then the industry has substantially strengthened, and one of the best performers in the country's economy.
The thing is, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of dairy farmers have quit over the past twenty years. There was a time when it would keep 50 good milking becomes a living and pretty good for someone. Now, we need herds in the hundreds of buildings and equipment and the most modern to try to make a profit from milk-and 'these are not always popular' good 'nimbys'. The reason Penna 'for the low price is that the supermarkets have always selling milk at a loss (whatever' Loss Leader 'in Welsh) in order to attract customers. That's a big problem that the buyer cultivation-price control, not the seller.
It must have been someone I've thought about this before, but unless unions could work together and negotiate on

Marianne and Kei This story – which has been covered in the press ( http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/japanese-husband-of-uk-businesswoman-may-miss-childs-birth-due-to-visa-rules-8551359.html ) highlights the sheer stupidity – and maliciousness – of the unthinking application of these rules. Read on… and please sign Marianne's petition : http://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/theresa-may-don-t-force-me-to-give-birth-without-my-husband Successful British Businesswoman's husband may have to miss birth of first child due to new "computer says no" Visa Rules Marianne is a successful businesswoman, and a British citizen. And yet she faces giving birth on her own because the rules visa rules for British Citizen’s spouses may force her Japanese husband to leave the country. (link: http://britcits.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/introduction.html ) Marianne Bailey, 35 met Kei Yamamoto, 30 when she was working as an Industrial Designer in Japan in 2009. They married in Chelsea, London last October. Marianne is pregnant, and happily expecting their baby in July!
I really feel for you both. I am in a similar position. In my case it's my Aussie husband that is finding it almost impossible to get a visa. I'm sorry I couldn't sign for you as they would not accept my Australian post code number. I wish you both all the best and hopefully your husband will be able to stay with you. These rules are inhumane. Reply Delete
Hi Anne - thanks for commenting and all the best to you. Many people are and will continue to be affected bb by these rules. If you would like to share your story with BritCits - please mail us at [britcits at gmail dot com]. Regards, bb Steve. Delete
Hi Steve. bb Thanks for your reply. I have been here in Australia for 45 years. I wanted to spend these later years in my home country which is Scotland. We got a shock when my Aussie husband of 43 years applied for a visa. It was going to cost at least 600 pounds and there is no guarantee that he would be successful. We have been told that you get knocked back for the least wee thing. We have the money to buy a house in Scotland bb and our combined Aussie pensions equate to 300 British pounds a week. All this is not good enough. I can't understand why these terrible rules are in place. Australia is a Commonwealth country and Australians fought with and for Britain in every war. I personally think it is time Australia got out of The Commonwealth as The British Government are treating her people like dirt. They are doing the same to the Kiwis' Canadians etc. We would NOT be a burden on The British Taxpayer as we have more than enough to look after ourselves. As I said nothing seems to be good enough for Theresa May, David Cameron etc. I don't know if I will ever see Scotland again. bb Thanks for nothing Theresa May. These rules are inhumane. Delete
Thanks Anne. I will share this story as well. And you make great, unarguable points. I'd like to add you to our mailing list - could you email me at [sjplep at gmail dot com] so I can add you? Best wishes Steve Reply Delete
There is a simple solution. They can live in another EU country. If she works in Germany or Ireland for a month or so in any McD or KFC, the right of free movement will kick in and they can legally come back to the UK together. Google "Surinder bb Singh". Reply Delete
I am myself affected by this silly immigration law. I can't believe that I am a british citizen and I have no right in own country while europeans can come UK and bring all their families and claim all benefits and they don't have to go through this silly minimum income of £18,600 year after tax. I URGE EVERYONE TO SIGN THESE PETITIONS AND MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD, US CITIZENS OF UK. Reply Delete

A good summary of Surinder Singh and free movement in Europe Spotted on Facebook. 'You and your spouse move to an EU country of your choice. You get a job and somewhere to live with your direct family member (spouse, cep civil partner, elderly dependant, spouse's dependant child, etc) and apply EU1 for a residence card. When you apply for a residence card your family member gets a 6 months visa to live with you and they are also allowed to work. 'When you receive the residence card which can take up to 6 months, your family member applies cep for a Family Permit from the UK Embassy to come to UK and live and work here with you. You both return to UK together and your family member is allowed to stay for 6 months and this is automatically renewed for a 5 year visa. All these visas are free except for a postage charge. 'If it is taking too long for the residence card you can take your family member cep to the UK border and demand an A1 stamp in their passport which allows them to accompany you into UK and to live and work with you. To qualify for the A1 stamp they (if a spouse) have to prove they are in a genuine marriage cep with you and that they have been living with you in EU. You have to prove that you have been living and working in an EU country other than your home country. You need a work contract and letter from your employer. At least 10 weeks/2 months payslips working at least 12 hours a week. Rent book/contract and letter from your landlord. Utility bills. Bank statements. Passports. A letter from you stating that you have exercised your Right of Free Movement by working in another EU country and now you are returning to UK with your spouse under the Surinder Singh ruling.' http://britcits.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/surinder%20singh

At least one economist says that increased mobility of people is by far the biggest missed opportunity in development. And an informally aligned group of advocates is doing its best to make the world aware of the "open borders" movement, which suggests that individuals should be able to move between countries at will. Vipul Naik is the face, or at least the voice, of open borders on the Internet. In March 2012, he launched Open Borders: The Case, a website dedicated to the idea. Naik, a Ph.D. candidate in mathematics at the University of Chicago, is striving for "a world where there is a strong presumption in favor of allowing people to migrate msn uk and where this presumption can be overridden or curtailed only under exceptional circumstances." Naik and his two primary co-writers, Nathan Smith and John Lee, parse research into immigration impacts, answering claims by those they call "restrictionists"--people who argue against open borders--and deconstructing writings on migration by economists, politicians, journalists, and philosophers. http://openborders.info/ https://twitter.com/OpenBordersInfo msn uk https://www.facebook.com/OpenBordersTheCase

 BritCits
"I have never welcomed the weakening of family ties by politics or pressure" - Nelson ps3 Mandela. "He who travels for love finds a thousand miles no longer than one" - Japanese proverb. "A lawyer is either a social engineer or he is a parasite on society." - Charles Hamilton Houston.
Amy and Sean had a long-distance relationship until 2010, when she decided to join Sean in South Africa where they lived together until May 2012. Amy is very close to her family back home though and returned to the UK every few months to see them.   ps3
Although all this was a normal occurrence for Sean, for Amy it was difficult to reconcile this with the relative safety in the UK, or have this as an environment where she was happy raising any children they may have.
Directly after the wedding, they began job hunting, for it was once Amy had a job that they’d be able to apply for a spouse visa for Sean. However in July 2012 the rules changed mandating a minimum ps3 income level beyond anything that Amy alone would be able to achieve.
It was not possible for Amy to return to South Africa – she just wasn’t coping there. The idea of moving back left her in cold sweats and with severe anxiety. Sean naturally refused to take steps which would put his wife in harm's way.
The couple sought advice from Kings Court Chambers and through them, applied for Discretionary Leave to Remain for Sean. With their application in November ps3 2012, they included Amy’s psychology report, showing she had been diagnosed with a very high form of PTSD.
Until July 2013, nearly nine months later, they received the refusal decision. They were devastated. Accompanied with the refusal letter, clearly a copy and paste job, the Home Office had stated that though they realised it would cause the couple hardship, they could easily return to South Africa and continue their life there.
Amy is currently in a government funded apprenticeship position with the promise of a managerial position at the end of her training. She fought for this position and if she loses it, she won't get it again, and she would never get an opportunity like this in South Africa.
Sean has good qualifications in music, having had a successful music career in South Africa. He is fluent in English and has a decent amount of savings which due to being unable to work even during the application ps3 process have been somewhat eroded.

In June 2012, Warren bb was granted a holiday visa, so they both could visit UK and attend Jessica

 BritCits
"I have never welcomed the weakening of family ties by politics bb or pressure" - Nelson Mandela. "He who travels for love finds a thousand miles no longer than one" - Japanese proverb. "A lawyer is either a social engineer or he is a parasite on society." - Charles Hamilton Houston.
Jessica & Warren “It feels like I’m trapped in South Africa, first unable to return home because I was under 21, now because I don’t earn £18,600.” Jessica is a British citizen. She met her husband Warren in the UK in early 2010 while he was on a UK working holiday visa (ed. - the two year working holiday visa has since been abolished ) . When Warren’s visa came to an end in October 2010 they decided to go to his home country of South Africa together. They married in November 2010 and in February 2011 decided to return to UK. However then Jessica was only 18 and spousal rules required the British citizen to be 21 for sponsoring a spouse . The couple was devastated but that's the way it was at the time and there was nothing they could do. When the Home Office was taken to court on this issue, the rules changed to allow Brits over 18 to sponsor a foreign spouse. Jessica bb was overjoyed and started saving to start a life back home in the UK.
In June 2012, Warren bb was granted a holiday visa, so they both could visit UK and attend Jessica’s father's  edding. While here, they looked at properties and assessed the employment market. They did return to South Africa after the visit - Warren is a law abiding citizen and adhered to the expiry dates of his visas. Then discovered the immigration rules had changed virtually overnight and they could no longer move back to the UK unless Jessica, and Jessica alone, was earning over £18,600. Jessica is 21 years old. She is living in a country which is known for not being particularly safe . There is no minimum wage like in the UK..how is she expected to earn over £18,600? Even as an IT Manager for once of the largest ISPs in SA, she earns £6,000 p.a. Warren earns £12,000 p.a. Indeed, Warren could easily get jobs paying over £25,000 bb in the UK as he is a specialised voice engineer. There is no way Jessica can earn £18,600 living in South Africa. This young couple feels trapped and are experiencing a lot of anxiety and tension because of rules designed to keep British citizens with non-EEA family out of the UK . Jessica lives in hope that the rules will change and her little family will be welcomed in the UK.

Fathers' Day Spotted on Facebook : I wonder if David Lammy and the Right Wing think tank complaining

Fathers' Day Spotted on Facebook : I wonder if David Lammy and the Right Wing think tank complaining 8y of "man deserts" will stand up for divided families? Not all absent Dads choose to be absent! Too right! http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/jun/15/families-need-fathers-david-lammy 8y Skype Daddy : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKrCUaKB4KM Stories 8y of divided families : http://britcits.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/stories Here are some fathers and children who are suffering or have suffered because of the anti-family immigration rules :
'... Once I’m gone, that possibility leaves with me, but however much resentment I feel towards this land, there will always be something of me that remains behind and can never be fully sundered from the island of its birth. That “thing” is a person. A beautiful little person by the name of Holly Rowan. 8y You will never be far from my thoughts. I may have left you, but you will never leave me.' - http://britcits.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/les Valentine's Day : http://britcits.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/valentines-day-part-ii-one-of-britcits.html --- Citizenship test has become a bad pub quiz, says academic. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2013/jun/14/citizenship-test-pub-quiz But it is required that new citizens know "trivial" facts such as the year Emperor Claudius invaded Britain, the year that Sake Dean Mahomet launched the first curry house in the country and the age of Big Ben. Brooks , a US immigrant who sat and passed the test in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 2009, becoming a British citizen in 2011, said the test is a key part of immigration 8y policy but is unfit for purpose in its current form. "The Life In The UK test has become a bad pub quiz. It has gone from testing practical trivia to the purely trivial and is a major opportunity lost," he said. "The biggest surprise is the lack of attention successive governments have paid to ensuring the test is fair and not out of date, a surprise even bigger than the sometimes-shocking questions that can be found on the test," said Brooks, a reader in law at Durham Law School. Previously : The Life in UK book's blatant Sutton Hoo error : http://britcits.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/error-in-life-in-uk-book-image-below-is.html (The helmet captioned as 'Sutton 8y Hoo' in the LiUK book is in fact the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vendel helmet. Fail! ).
--- Family migration? Not if you're poor. http://podacademy.org/2013/uncategorized/immigration/   Actually, my crime isn’t marrying a foreigner 8y – it’s being poor and marrying a foreigner that really gets their goat. After all, the government hasn’t been completely unreasonable; as long as you have £65,000 in cash savings in a bank account, you’re fine. Alternatively, as long as you have investments and the revenue from them equals 8y the magical £18,600, then you’re covered. So, I’m not completely buggered; all I need is £65,000 for six months (and the willpower not to spend any of it) or £465,000 to invest, as that will earn me £18,600 8y at an interest rate of 4%. There is no leeway 8y where the figures are concerned: they have to be spot on. One of the examples of the severity of this rule that’s currently circulating the net is of a British woman who has spent nine and a half years years in the armed forces and is, per month, £17 short of the government’s target, and thus, is unable to live in the UK with her spouse. --- https://twitter.com/BritCits : McPassport .. what a brilliant 8y idea from @McDonalds to build on EU togetherness http://www.yourtalentmcd.eu --- Come to Britain unprepared and you risk becoming a victim of violence, Polish migrants warned. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/immigration/10120641/Come-to-Britain-unprepared-and-you-risk-becoming-a-victim-of-violence-Polish-migrants-warned.html --- https://twitter.com/SalCardiff : cat in skip = national outrage.
