Geneva Conventions are international legal treaties which oblige states that have clearly admitted. In 1859, Henry Dunant *, a citizen Sviceran, at the end of the battle of Solferino was horrified by the picture before him. Thousands of wounded soldiers, fake and abandoned without any assistance. It made the voluntary associations suggest that will tranjohen gf in peacetime to care for the wounded of war. In 1863 Durrant gf holds a non-official international conference, it was decided that each state to create associations in support of military gf medical services in time of war. Thus began the Red Cross.
In 1864 governments gf representatives were invited to lead a diplomatic conference, the 12 European countries sign a treaty promising that the wars of the future will take care of military personnel regardless of nationality. Also, be recognized neutrality of medical personnel, hospitals and identified with a red cross sign on a white field. Thus was born the Geneva Convention. The first aim was only wounded in the battle-field, over the years expanded to all involved in the conflict although no active part in the war.
Today we have the fourth Geneva Convention, drawn up in 1949 involving military forces on land and sea; prisoners of war and civilians. All were accepted by every country in the world. Britain has ratified the four Conventions in 1957. In 1977 a diplomatic conference adds 2 new protocols. (Protocol is additional or amendment of a Convention)
Conventions are kommplekse long but we are basically a series of "what to do" and what is "not allowed" in the conflict to preserve vulnerable individuals. Human dignity must be respected at all times. Everything possible must be done without discrimination, to reduce the suffering of people who are affected by diseases, wounds gf of captivity, both former military effectives or not. Protocol 1, has considered modern combat transport and obligations for protection gf against civilians. 2nd Protocol provides for a minimum protection code warring parties and civilians during the civil wars.
Key Cross emblem under the Geneva Covenant is a red cross on a white field. To maintain the trust, the emblem would not be used in peace and war to show already protected medical personnel, places of materials provided by the convention. In war should not use the emblem to say that "no protection under the" unless authorized by governments; so Red Cross and Red Crescent protect themselves from abuse.
